Meteora is a formation of enormous rocks in Greece and the buildings built atop them. The buildings are perched on places floating in midair, between heaven and earth. The steep rocky peaks attracted people as places to get close to God, away from the secular world. Traces of the area’s 2,500-year-old history can still be seen today. Studded with many immense rocks, Meteora has seven remaining buildings in the sky. Some of them are built atop rocks that reach nearly 600 meters in elevation. It is said that in the past, monks climbed up to the sky monasteries with their bare hands, without using tools. The towering rocky mountains attracted the monks as a place for training given by God.
